"It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum... and I'm all outta gum."

Whoa !!  Even with 2 weeks off, i didn't really do anything about my stopmotion project.  There was a lot of shopping, family parties, hangovers, outdoors activities, etc...  Despite all these things, i managed (at least) to document myself about all the things i should know about building up a stopmotion puppet.  I've read and digged many fellow's blogs and Youtube's channels about casting molds, creating latex skins, painting puppet, etc...

I've also prepared a grocery list of all the things useful i could think of and bought them.  The only thing missing is Pros-Aide.  I couldn't find any place around selling that and because we are winter time, they don't recommend shipping by now.  So i'll wait for that if tinting the latex doesn't give nice results.

In the next days, i'll do many tests with the construction methods i've learned, in order to find the one i'm the more comfortable with.  I'll keep you inform with my results.

Here's my shopping cart.

2010 was a year which i've learned a lot about all the basics of stopmotion.  The only thing that was missing was the puppet construction part.  This is what i want to work on the most in 2011.

  7. Aaahh, I love big shopping days ;)

Mind if I ask what the galvanized steel wire is for? I've had nightmarish experiences animating with the stuff in the past. I only stick with aluminum, annealed steel, or almaloy wire now.

Do you have any cabosil or ammonia too? You can do some wicked cool (and easy) monster texturing effects with that mold builder, if your plannin on using it for monster skin, which it looks like you are.

Can't wait to see your results!

  8. Duane: Galvanized steel wire was bought before i heard that aluminium is way better. I didn't really expriment with this kind of material before. I think that galvanized steel broke earlier than aluminium. Am i right ?

The legs of the creature will be heavy, even if it's padded with foam. The length of them is the reason. Galvanized steel can endure more weight with just two twisted wires. Aluminium would required maybe four of them to be equal in strenght.

You have to give me more details about what can i do with ammonia. I have access for this kind of product, but i really don't know what you are talking about (doing texturing effects).

Thanks for the tips and for the support.
